About the ISC and Pathways

Why study at an International Study Centre

The International Study Centre offers international students, on-campus degree preparation for undergraduate and, postgraduate courses and is part of the university. The preparatory courses will provide, you with the necessary academic skills and English language, tutoring to undertake a degree at the University of Sussex.

Qualifications around the world do not always match with UK qualifications and quite often to gain entry into a top rated university, students need to follow a pathway.

There are several stages to a pathway.

An Undergraduate Pathway is a single course which is comprised of a series of stages (Stages 1-4) of study which on successful completion results in the award of a Bachelor's Degree. A Postgraduate Pathway is a single course which is comprised of a series of stages of study (Stages 1 - 2) which on successful completion results in the award of a Master's Degree.

Foundation or Stage1 - A pre degree programme for students who do not meet university entry requirements. Successful completion leads to progression to year 1 of a UK bachelor degree. The course includes both academic subjects as well as English Language.

Diploma Year 1 (International Year One) - Stage 2  - Designed for students who fail to meet the entry requirements for drirect entry, but who are still capable of studying at that level. Successful completion leads to the 2nd year of a UK bachelor degree programme. The course includes both academic subjects as well as English Language. Stages 3 and 4 comprise of the 2nd and 3rd year of an honours degree.

Pre Masters -  is a 6 month or 9 month programme for students who have a 1st degree, but whose degrees are not equivalent to a UK degree. Generally 1 or terms additional learning is required in order to follow onto a master degree. The offer is made with a conditional of progression upon successful completion. Successful completion leads to the master degree which in the UK is normally 9 months.

English Language - A pressional English Language programme is available for those who fail to meet the mnimum English Language requirements. Please note visa regulations may differ in the cae of English Language entry.
